I hope someone can help. We stopped paying our mortgage a little over a year ago. The house went for a sheriff's sale just under a month ago and of course it didn't sell. M&T bank took back ownership. I called today to see how much time we had and if we could do a cash for keys deal. They told me that those types of programs do not pertain to foreclosures. I was under the impression that this is exactly what its was for. They said that I should be getting an eviction notice in the mail any day now and it will say on the paper how long I have to leave. Does this sound right? Did I ask for it the wrong way? Maybe I was supposed to ask for this before the sheriff's sale?

Not sure if background info is important but we are with M&T bank
We originally tried to do a short sale.
We had a buyer but the bank took to long to answer so the buyers walked.
We were still trying to short sale the house when it went to a sheriff's sale.
